Elizabeth Peyton

Artstor is actively collaborating with a wide range of living artists and estates of modern artists. An especially productive collaboration with the contemporary artist, Elizabeth Peyton (b. 1965) has resulted in the addition of over 170 works to the Artstor Digital Library. Best known for her stylized figurative portraits of friends, pop celebrities, and historical figures, Peyton creates small-scale, intimate portrayals that reflect her own style, as well as those of her subjects. Her work is characterized by slender figures with idealized, androgynous features, similar to fashion illustration. While her most typical medium is oil paint, Peyton has also created works on paper with colored pencil, charcoal, ink, etc. Examples of both are available in Artstor, depicting notable figures such as: artist David Hockney; musicians Kurt Cobain and Liam and Noel Gallagher; actors Leonardo DiCaprio and Chloe Sevigny; historical figures Marie Antoinette and Napoleon Bonaparte; and various members of the British Royal family.
