New York photographer Bob Gore has contributed approximately 300 images* from his portfolio to the Artstor Digital Library, documenting diverse expressions of faith and belief across the United States and in the Caribbean region.

The selection in Artstor presents many rituals and vignettes from spiritual traditions, including Christian worship at Gore’s own Abyssinian Church in Harlem, Senegalese prayer, Native American ceremonial dance, and much more.

As the grandson of a pastor, Robert Gore was introduced to worship at a very young age. Over the years, he has experienced faith firsthand from Harlem to Curacao, Haiti, and Jamaica. In 2001, Gore published We’ve Come This Far: Abyssinian Baptist Church, about the Harlem landmark, community, and gospel hub, where he is a long-standing trustee and the official photographer.
